Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens also known as Queen Latifah, an American rapper singer. In music, film and on television, Queen Latifah has received the award of two Screen Actors Guild Awards (two Image Awards), a Grammy Award, six more Grammy nods and nominations for the Emmy Award. Queen Latifah is the daughter of Newark New Jersey native. Her parents were Lancelot Sr. as a police officer as well as Rita educator at Irvington High School. Her parents divorced around the age of ten. Latifah was brought up in the Baptist church, and attended Catholic schools at Newark New Jersey. Latifah can be described as an Arabic term that translates to "delicate and gentle". Her aunt gave it to her at the age of eight. Latifah is a very tall 5'10 girl who was on the high school basketball squad. She performed the song "Home" from The Wiz in the course of a show in her high school. Latifah was a beatboxer in her band, the Ladies Fresh rap band. Latifah joined the Flavor Unit in its original version, made up of a group of MCs led by producer DJ Mark The 45 King. Mark James aka the DJ Mark the 40 King created an example of the rapper Princess of the Posse by Queen Latifah. The recorded was sent to Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross, an employee of Tommy Boy Music who heard the track and made a deal with Latifah in 1988 to release her first single Wrath of My Madness.
